How consent works
Journeys that run on Carbon ask for contact details only after giving the person something useful, such as an estimate or a next step. Before the contact details are submitted, the journey shows consent wording that names who may contact the person and how. The person then confirms their phone number with a one-time code. A lead is never sold or delivered before the phone number is confirmed.
- Consent is not a condition of buying anything.
- The consent box is never pre-checked, and the wording sits next to the button that submits it.
- The number of businesses that may contact the person is capped. It can never be more than four.
The consent wording
Each customer sets its own wording for each brand and version it. This example shows the required parts:
By tapping “Get my quote”, you agree that Summit Roofing and up to 3 local roofing companies it matches you with may call or text you at the number above about your project, including by automated means. Consent is not required to buy. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our Privacy policy and Terms.
Text message program
| Program | Project updates and follow-up from the business you asked to hear from, and the businesses it matched you with |
|---|---|
| Messages you may get | Phone confirmation codes, your estimate or report link, introductions from matched businesses, appointment scheduling and reminders |
| Frequency | Varies with your request. Usually a few messages in the first days. |
| Cost | Message and data rates may apply |
| Opt out | Reply STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE or QUIT |
| Help | Reply HELP, or email support@carbonform.io |
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Texting opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties for their own marketing.
This example confirmation code message shows the format:
Summit Roofing: your code is 482913. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.
Stop, help and quiet hours
- STOP takes effect right away for that sender. We send one confirmation and nothing else. If you want messages again, reply START.
- HELP replies with who is texting you and how to reach support.
- Opt-outs are shared with every business that received the lead, so a STOP applies to all of them.
- Automated texts respect quiet hours in the recipient’s local time, 9 pm to 8 am by default, or stricter where state law requires.
Texts to lead buyers
Contractors and other lead buyers who join through Carbon agree to receive texts about new leads, offers, credit balance and account activity. They can pause lead alerts in settings or reply STOP at any time. Account and security messages may still be sent by email.
Consent records
For every lead, Carbon stores:
- the exact wording shown;
- a snapshot of the page;
- the time;
- device and browser;
- IP address;
- the journey version;
- the phone confirmation;
- which businesses received the lead.
Customers and buyers can view or download the record for any lead they have. Records are kept for at least five years.
Rules for Carbon customers
Customers are responsible for their consent wording, their campaigns and their compliance with the law, including the TCPA, state telemarketing and mini-TCPA laws, Do Not Call rules and carrier requirements. Carbon provides tools to help, and requires that customers:
- register their texting brand and campaigns with carriers before sending;
- name or clearly describe the businesses that may contact the person, and never exceed the buyer limit;
- keep wording accurate and send only messages covered by the consent;
- honor opt-outs immediately and never text numbers without valid consent.
